Philipp was born in Germany and worked at the main chemist at Auschwitz and he helped create medicines and pesticides. After they told him he would be making soap out of all the deceased victims. Once the liberation ceased, he became first chairman of the State Federation of North Rhine and Westphalia and after, he became chairman of the Association of Jewish Communities in Bavaria. He became state commissioner in 1946 of the Bavarian provincial government for religious, political and racial victims of the Nazis, and it was in this position that he became one of the first Jewish men to to have a role after the war in German politics. Years later he was accused of financial misconduct and forgery in regard to reparations payments, even though he gave all the money towards helping Jewish victims get back the money they lost during the Holocaust. On August 14, 1952 he was found guilty received a sentence of 2 and a half years in prison. This was decided by a court of 5 judges, and 3 of them were connected to the Nazi party. 2 days after Auerbach's sentence, he committed suicide, and 4 years later he was cleared of all his charges.
